ELBLĄG

Elbląg is one of the oldest Polish cities where historic architecture and picturesque nature of the Elbląg Upland and Żuławy intertwine with modernity.

The city’s history is over 780 years old. It includes the times of the settlement of Trudo, times under the rule of the Teutonic Order, the participation in the Hanseatic union of cities, intensive development of the port, or World War II perios during which Elbląg, and mainly its Old Town, was almost obliterated.

The contemporary Elbląg is a multicultural city inhabited by people who were brought here after 1945. Over time, this diverse population has created an extremely creative local society who have been rebuilding the Old Town with a great commitment and ingenuity while fulfilling its ambitions as a port city and building its economic strength.

Elbląg's uniqueness is also determined by its geographical location and specific landscape. From one side of the city we are enchanted by the landscapes of the Vistula Żuławy. From the other side we can admire the diverse flora and fauna of the Elbląg Upland. On the outskirts of the city we can enjoy the Bażantarnia forest with its unique trees, gorges and ravines. Tourists will find lots of attractions in the city and the surrounding area such as the Old Town of Elbląg, the Teutonic Knights Castle in Malbork, the Cathedral Hill in Frombork or the unique, world-class monument of hydrotechnical art, the Elbląg Canal. It is close from here to the Baltic Sea and beautiful Warmia.
